Some stars are so far away from earth that no one knows their distance. But how far away are the nearest stars?
The sun is the nearest star. The distance from the sun to the earth is about 150,000,000 kilometers. Light travels at the rate of 300,000 kilometers a second. Therefore, it takes about eight minutes for light from the sun to reach the earth.
